Getting Ready for Air Conditioning Season

April 30, 2016

Summer hasn’t quite made its debut but the temperatures are definitely increasing and that means it’s time for air conditioning season. Before the heat sets in and you’re running your air conditioning unit 24/7 to stay comfortable, don’t forget to call your AC service technician to come out and conduct your annual ac maintenance.

In addition to an AC system tune-up, there are a few other ways you can prepare for the cooling season before warmer weather is officially here to stay.

  • Clean Your System

Don’t start taking your air conditioner apart, let an expert do that, but you can clean up the ground around your unit to remove branches and debris that have made their way to your air conditioning unit during the windy winter and stormy spring. Keep the grass trimmed around the unit and prune back any overgrown plants or vegetation to make sure your cooling equipment is clear of debris. Clearing the air way can help keep your air conditioning unit running properly.

·     Change Your Home’s Air Filters

Climate Control Service Experts will swap out your home’s basic air filters when they conduct your air conditioning tune-up as part of your standard A/C maintenance. You can (and should) also replace your HVAC air filters in between maintenance visits, and it’s recommended that you do so at least every one to two months for optimal performance. An unchanged filter accumulates dust, allergens, and germs so for the health of the people living in your home and the efficiency of your A/C system, make sure you’re changing those filters as part of your regular air conditioning service. Remember, a clogged filter could actually damage your AC equipment.

  • Block the Sun

Help block the sun from heating up your home by hanging blackout drapes or window shades. Hanging drapes or curtains may also help save your furniture and floors from fading or experiencing sun damage over time.

·     Check Alarm Batteries

If you forgot to check the batteries in your smoke and CO detectors over daylight savings, now is the time. Don’t forget to also check the batteries in your thermostat to make sure it is functioning properly so you don’t end up calling an AC service technician because your A/C isn’t turning on and then it ends up just being the thermostat. You could also consider investing in an automated thermostat so you can adjust the temperature away from home and save money on your utility bills.

An annual A/C system tune-up service could make your air conditioner up to 30% more efficient and save you money on your cooling bills. Call Climate Control Service Experts today to make sure your air conditioner is ready to keep you cool and comfortable for the summer and learn about our spring specials on air conditioning tune-ups.
