How to Prepare Your Mobile Home for Air Conditioning Installation

May 07, 2015

So you’ve recognized that it’s time to upgrade your existing air conditioning system to a more energy efficient system. Great choice! You’re investing in your family’s comfort as well as the decreasing of your utility bills and responsible consumption of energy. While those are all great things there are still a few more things you can do to prepare your Mobile home before you get going with the air conditioning installation process.

1. Review the Manual J Heating and Cooling Load

First of all, the AC contractor should have conducted what’s called a heating and cooling load calculation. This involved calculation takes into account the home’s structure, roof, windows, direction and location to identify the size and type of equipment needed. Ask to see the load calculation and have it spelled out for you. If the contractor did what’s commonly referenced as a Block Assessment, or did not perform a load calculation at all, we would strongly recommend finding another contractor or calling Climate Control Service Experts at 251-202-7503. Your Mobile HVAC specialist will be able to give you a full assessment.

2. Clean and Seal Ducts.

Next, have the company clean your ductwork. It’s not smart to introduce caked on dirt and dust from a very old duct system to your brand new air conditioning system. The health of your whole system and the quality of the air you breathe starts with your ducts delivering clean air, so make sure that they are cleaned and properly sealed by the HVAC contractor. If you can’t remember the last time you had your ducts cleaned or have never had them cleaned, have the contractor perform a duct cleaning before your new AC installation.

3. Clear a Path.

Prior to the air conditioner installation you will also want to clear the area where equipment will be installed, and ensure it is easy to access. There are stairs, landscaping porches, decks or other items near the AC, clear the area as much as you can. Ensure the area is clear of yard waste like big sticks and leaf piles so installation is even easier. Also make sure to clear away any obstructions that could get in your installation expert’s way such as garden hoses, rakes, or children’s toys. Make sure pets are confined so they do not get in the way of the installation crew.
