When the Dallas-Fort Worth area Service Experts Heating and Air Conditioning locations (Calverley Service Experts, Service Experts Heating and Air Conditioning Plano/DFW, and Levy and Son) were getting ready to host a booth at the Walk MS events in Dallas and Fort Worth, they had the idea to offer something to the event attendees.
“The team felt an APCO Air Purifier was the ideal product to auction off since this spring the company has been encouraging saving the air, and it helps destroy germs and bacteria from your home’s air that can worsen allergies and respiratory problems,” said Rob Haines, Marketing Manager for Service Experts.
Kim Speck was the winner of the Fresh-Aire UV APCO Air Purifier when she bid the highest at the Dallas Walk MS event. Kim first found out about the APCO many months before when she came across an article discussing the importance of indoor air quality.
“I wasn’t too interested at the time because I didn’t understand its compatibility with almost any heating and cooling system, and assumed it was another one of those “luxuries” that was way out of my budget. When I discovered it again at the Walk MS event, everyone was talking about the seriousness of good indoor air quality for people suffering from MS and I just thought of my father.”
Kim’s father was in his 90s and had been living with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease for over two decades. He was required to be on oxygen 24/7/365 for the past four years.
“The allergens in the air aggravated him even though I would install the more expensive 3M Filtrate brand of air filters. They just didn’t help. He frequently caught pneumonia but he had only left the house over the past four years for doctor appointments.”
The pneumonia meant Kim’s father spent at least two months in the hospital and rehabilitation facility. Right before the Walk MS event in Addison, Kim’s father had spent almost a month in the hospital and a few days at the rehab facility recovering from two strings of pneumonia. After watching her father go through so much, Kim decided she was ready to “roll the dice” and bid on the APCO, which had two great benefits: her dad would finally come home to “clean” air and all the money went to the National Multiple Sclerosis Society.
Kim was thrilled when she found out she had bid the highest and planned on having the APCO installed in her father’s residence before he was released from the rehab center. Unfortunately, only three days after the MS Walk, Kim’s father was brought home to hospice care and passed away peacefully just a few days later. The APCO arrived the week after he passed.
Kim had the APCO installed in her own home since her husband has issues with allergies. Shortly after it was installed, she was cooking onions and noted she couldn’t smell any stenches once she the meal was over. She’s excited to see the long-term effects of her new APCO.
All of us here at Climate Control Service Experts are keeping Kim and her family in our thoughts and prayers.
