What NATE Certification is and Why it Matters

November 08, 2016

Climate Control Service Experts in Mobile always talks about how our service techs are NATE-certified, and while it sounds comforting, what does it really mean?

NATE is an abbreviation for North American Technician Excellence and, according to their website, is the nation’s largest certification organization for HVAC (heating, ventilation, air conditioning) and refrigeration technicians. The organization is owned, operated, developed, and supported by the entire HVAC and refrigeration industry but not everyone in the industry is required to be NATE-certified. The certification is discretionary and technicians can service heating, cooling, ventilation, and refrigeration equipment without being certified through NATE.

It’s important to Climate Control Service Experts that our technicians are NATE-certified to ensure we are sending the most qualified and professional technicians into your home. To make sure technicians meet these standards, the NATE-certification tests validate real-world working knowledge of HVAC and refrigeration systems for technicians. The assessments are knowledge-based assessments that assess the technician’s knowledge of these subjects.

Since Climate Control Service Experts focuses on the HVAC side of NATE-certification and not refrigeration, there are only certain areas relevant to our technicians. NATE exam candidates may obtain installation and/or service certification in one or more of the specialty areas listed below:

  • Air Conditioning
  • Air Distribution
  • Gas Heating
  • Oil Heating
  • Heat Pumps
  • Hydronics Gas (service only)
  • Hydronics Oil (service only)
  • Light Commercial Refrigeration (service only)
  • Commercial Refrigeration (service only)
  • Ground Source Heat Pump Loop Installer
  • Senior HVAC Efficiency Analyst
