Here's What to Do When Your Furnace Won't Ignite

February 23, 2017

We are making our way through the last of the weeks of winter but we still have to have our furnaces, especially during frigid nights. There’s not a lot that is worse than going to bed at night and realizing your furnace won’t kick on. If you find yourself in this situation, here are a couple things you can check yourself prior to calling Climate Control Service Experts Heating & Air Conditioning.

Check Air Filters

You should swap out standard air filters monthly. If you do not, they can get clogged, restricting air flow and causing your furnace to malfunction.

Check Your Thermostat

Start by turning the thermostat up a few degrees to get the furnace to turn on. If the current room temperature is higher than the thermostat, the furnace won’t kick on. Also, verify the system switch is on “heat” or “auto.”

Check the Power

It may seem obvious, but confirm the power switch next to the furnace is “On.” Even gas heating systems use electricity so make sure the breaker has not tripped and that the power switch has not been accidently switched to the “Off” position.

If you review all these things and your furnace will still not kick on, give Climate Control Service Experts Heating & Air Conditioning a call at 251-202-7503 and we’ll come out and take care of you as soon as possible.
